What makes harry so brave in the book Harry Potter and the Socerers Stone?

His experiences as an orphan and having to stand up for himself constantly. he is used to facing up to fears and looking out for himself. He has nothing to lose and no one to miss him if he dies, in a sense he has quite a nihilistic outlook on life.
