Are they filled with liquid, air, both?
When they do a colonoscopy, it looks completely empty, but every time I watch a science video about human digestion, it looks like both the small and large intestine are completely flooded with digest fluid. I'm so confused.
Please help. If we were inside, what would we see? Liquid? Air? both?
Thanks! That has always really confused me!! I do have a couple follow up questions if you don't mind though :)
"Prior to a colonoscopy, large and small colons are completely emptied."
So, once they're emptied (I assume by laxatives) would the large intestinal track kind of just be closed shut because nothing is in there, or is there a little amount of air in there and the camera just puts MORE air in there to spread it open for the doctor to see?
Also, once you've cleansed for a colonoscopy, is it only digestive fluid that's in the small intestine? Or is there no digestive fluid because no food is present?
And is there no digestive fluid in the large intestine at all? Only previously digested food that's having water sucked out of it?
