What is Ultrasound?

ultrasound is what they use at the hospital to look at babies in the womb. it uses low frequency radio waves that do not emit harmful radiation like an x-ray does.

Ultrasound is basically the same as sound, except that the frequency is so high that humans cannot hear it.
there is a nice experiment where you take a speaker and slowly increase the frequency, so the pitch gets higher and higher. eventually you will no longer be able to hear it, because your ear is simply not built to register frequencies like that. but other animals like dogs or bats can hear it.
the answer with the radio waves is false. ultrasound does not have a lot to do with that.

Ultrasound is a cyclic sound pressure wave with a frequency greater than the upper limit of human hearing. Ultrasound is thus not separated from "normal" (audible) sound based on differences in physical properties, only the fact that humans cannot hear it
