The Decibel, (db) & is a logarithmic to base 10 unit of measurement.
It is actually 1/10 of a bell being named after Alexander Graham Bell.
Standard set by ISO 80000-3:2006 which defines the bel.

Quick clarification should read,"1/10 of a bel". Sorry did this last thing last night!
