How might emotional intelligence be tested? Should emotional intelligence be a factor in determining academic promotion to the next grade?

"Emotional intelligence" is one of those terms that people make up to sound like they know something when they don't. Nobody knows what intelligence is, not even the people who sell the test. Nobody agrees on what an emotion is, except everybody thinks they know what you mean when you talk about it.
IMO emotion is a learned behavior: every kid has to learn how to act in each situation and we call that emotion or temper. But few people will agree with me because they assume that "acting" equals "faking".
IMO "emotional intelligence" is what would otherwise be called empathy or experience.
