What is the relation between religion and politics?

That's a pretty broad subject. Shortest answer is that they are usually polar opposites. Most people think it's like magic vs logic.

Luke 4:5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

"Delivered unto me," get it? Satan is the god of earthly authority.

The word 'religion' is used four times in the bible and all four emphasize that it is made up by men telling each other what to do; IOW a variation of earthly authority.

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching, but
You're too shy to say it
Inside, we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it

And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

(Ooh, give you up)
(Ooh, give you up)
Never gonna give, never gonna give
(Give you up)
Never gonna give, never gonna give
(Give you up)

Every culture in history has pretended that the ruler was descended from heaven. That continues to the present day, when public officials are casually called "the powers that be", a direct quote from the bible. Here is a very long essay collecting ancient myths and leading to some surprising discoveries: www.saturniancosmology.org/

In my thoughts religion and politics aren't suppose to mix. Taking it back to Jesus day when he performed the miracle of feeding thousands of people with just some loaves of bread and fish, the people at that point were going to gather Jesus up and make him king. At that point was when he realized it and took his leave to the mountains. (John 6:15) So rather than get involved in political affairs he remained neutral in that aspect and actually at John 17:16 he admonished his followers to listen to the words saying "they are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world." So instead of politics he got involved in something greater which was the Kingdom of God that is very soon to come which will put an end to the kingdoms we have here on earth. (Dan 2:44) So thats my resolve rather than politics.

Absolutely nothing. Religion and anything "state" are not supposed to mix. Keep politics out of religion, and religion out of politics.

Nothing. When Jesus Christ walked the earth, he told a Roman ruler that his Kingdom was no part of the world.

While corruption can exist in human organisations, the corruption within government is the worst. Therefore a Christian would not partake in any form, with politics.

Notice how Jesus reacted when people wanted him to become involved in the politics of his day (john 6:15) -Then Jesus knowing that they were about to come and seize him to make him king withdrew again to the mountain all alone.

The reason why Jesus withdrew to the mountains is because he wanted no part of politics!

Religion is gathering of stories and myths by some primitive folks. They can made broad frames of life. Politics is way to try commonly work out everyday task and problems and solve them at way that gives greatest mutual benefit with smallest personal harm to any individual. At modern society there shouldn't have much common ground where these two overlaps

Safety of people.
Freedom of people.
The big picture: best advancement of the world!

The only thing I don't like about some religious aspects is that of the end of the world. If we worshiped a political campaign the way some people worship Revelations concerning the end of the world or an Armageddon, then that's where will likely end up! So in that sense, we must worship the advancement and continuity of the world and our species, which brings me back to..

Safety, health, freedom and advancement of the world.

No matter, worship the a future that will allow us all to thrive, live in peace, health, safety, privacy and freedom. We're all here to grow! If you grow believing the world will end today no matter what you do, I believe that to be counter productive. To quote Einstein

"Learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow!"

Religion and politics are entities . They both have a broad base of support . With the exception of the early days , they both have a hierarchy of power . There are , also , many branches or facets of both . Which is up to the individual person eg. voter to choose to participate or believe in .

There is a separation between the two, but I don't know if you can really compare very well. Religion is belief and what you think through your own or your higher power's moral laws, politics is moral law through government and their own power.

Religion = Sermon on the mount. Politics = Turning over the tables of money changers and whipping the crap out of them. Religion and politics are simply the two sides of the same coin. All wars are both political and religious in nature, which is political power and religious control, both requiring money. Money displays the image of Caesar and well as the phrase "In God We Trust". One coin...two masters...
