What is the purpose of the clutch switch on the clutch pedal in cars?

The Cluch in cars is very important part in the car. first there is a the engien which it is spinning. ok now if the cluch is pushed in and you push petrol / acellerate the revs will just climb.so the cluch pedal is connected to a very powerful spring that pushes a plate onto the spinning part of the engine. so if you push in the cluch the plate gets disconnected fom the engine and you can change gear ONLY if the cluch is pushed in if you do it while its not pushed in you will break you cluch and mabe your gears.
