It depends on what you are talking about. Before ac, people would stay up late waiting for the house to cool enough to sleep in. Some would drag their beds outside and sleep in the yard. You can imagine how that affected the birth rate. In modern times architects simply assume air conditioning. Their buildings can not be occupied if the ac quits.
