What is the mood that the author is trying to convey in the book before we were free ?

Do you go to a restaurant, pay for a meal, and then try to con some stranger into eating it for you? That is what you are doing here: you have paid for a class, and now you are trying to con strangers on the internet into learning the material for you. That makes no sense. You should read the book and think about it and make up your own assessment of the mood. That is the skill you paid to learn. And you only learn it by doing it.
