What is the link with the number after apollo ?

i was thinking about the relation between the number after apollo. i mean apollo 1 is not the first mission, so why 1 ?

Answer

The mission AS-204, in which the 3 astronauts were killed, was renamed Apollo 1 in their honor.  AS-201, AS-202, and AS-203 were launched later, unmanned.  The subsequent missions were manned, and designated as Apollo 4, 5, 6, etc.
