What is the effect of freezing temperatures on rocks?

You will have to be more specific. The freezing point of a rock depends on what it is made of. Most rocks on the earth's surface are frozen (solid). So I guess the answer to your question is solidification.

If you are referring the freezing point of water (0 C) and below, then most likely a slight increase in density (shrinking without loss of mass).

Well, sunlight heats all matter. So an increase in temperature.
