What is the distinction between comment, discuss, what do you think, do you agree, assess?

Discuss- Requires an in-depth answer that takes into account of all the aspects of the debate concerning the essay question or argument. You should demonstrate reasoning skills by using evidence and knowledge of various perspectives put forward by other scholars to make a case for and against an argument or point out the advantages and disadvantages of a given context. Remember to arrive at a conclusion clearly stating your position based on previous literature and evidence you present.

Comment - Require you to give out the main points on a subject and give your opinion, reinforcing your point of view using logic and reference to relevant evidence, including any wider reading you have done.

What do you think - You are required to share your opinions and thoughts concerning a research topic or question.

Do you agree - Requires to give supporting comments and evidence whether you agree or not to a given argument or research question.

Assess- Requires an answer demonstrating to what extent something is true. You should persuade the reader of your argument by citing relevant research as well as to point out any flaws and counter-arguments. Conclude by stating clearly how far you are in agreement with the original proposition.
