I'm 18 and gonna attend college soon. I want a career in either wildlife biology or zoology but I have no idea which. I do know I want to travel the world and study all types of animals (mainly from the tropical region) and show the world the importance of wildlife just like Steve Irwin did. I heard wildlife biology and zoology are very similar but I just want to focus on one.

Wildlife Biology is a branch of Zoology. Zoology is the general study of animals. It is often broken into various branches based on type of animal, such as Herpetology (the study of reptiles) or region, such as Tropical Zoology (the study of animals that live in tropical areas). Wildlife Biology includes not only the study of animals in a particular area, but also their management. For example, a wildlife biologist (such as Steve Irwin) would need to study and keep track of how the animals in a certain area are affected by availability of food and water, other animals, weather, and human activities. They would need to help manage the number of visitors allowed in a protected area and help decide how many (if any) hunting or fishing licenses to grant. If you are going to college, I would advise to start with Zoology and take elective classes in the different branches that interest you, then specialize from there, either into a career or into specialized graduate studies. I also advise you to volunteer or do an internship to further explore and refine your interests. I hope this answer helps you!!!
