The focus on Windows Vista was security, but they went overboard and the UAC (User Account Control) pops up and asks your permission for just about everything that you do. They rolled this back a bit for Windows 7

Vista also has a redesigned Start menu (which no longer says Start) which allows users to search for programs easily.

There is a lot of new features in vista most where said by jimmy7 but windows vista comes with a default program that lets you display all you're open windows in a sort of coverflow display, this can be downloaded for windows XP but is not a default program.
