What is the difference between chutney and pickle?

These two terms seem to be used interchangeably, but are they the same thing?

A pickle is a vegetable that has been preserved raw in vinegar or brine or similar, possibly with other spices together and a chutney means the vegetables are cooked down with spices and sugars etc similar to making jams etc.
