I am having trouble classifying myself. I think the Bible is fiction, which was written as a guide for people to live by rather than it being historically accurate. Although I believe in darwins evolutionary theories, i still believe in a higher power, weather it be God, Allah, Buddha, etc... I mean, there has to be SOMETHING or SOMEONE that created everything, one that created the basis for life to begin and evolve. can anyone help me figure out what this kind of belief is called? I've tried research and I just can't find the correct term to completely describe my beliefs. HELP

To be honest it's very complicated to believe in evolution, everything in the universe came to together by means of a simple form and became complex. To believe there is a higher power is totally opposite to evolution. Believing in a higher power is acknowledging their is a Grand Creator. I absolutely agree with you on the higher being but not on evolution. Logically speaking if a simple thing like a house is created by man, don't you think us human beings whose DNA alone is so complex to understand will have a Creator. You said you don't believe in the bible but even scientist have agreed that the earth was not created simply for nothing. God Created the earth and everything that mankind need and more to live on. Imagine the breath of life, every breath is precious to us,without it we will die. All the more reason why we should be thankful to God for his loving kindness,by showing how much we appreciate his loving kindness.
Just to confirm your thinking of a Higher Being is in place is mention at Isaiah 40:22,"There is One who dwells above the circle of the earth." Even scientist agree the earth is flat,a circle hanging on nothing. So who is holding up this planet ,no other that Our Powerful Father in the Heavens. First off you may have a person that may be agnostic which is a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God.
Another category is atheism which is a disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God.
You don't fit in either one of these.
Let me ask you this why do you feel that the Bible is fiction? IS it because you feel that the Bible prophecies did not come true? IF it s because of the prophecies you feel did not come true. Think of this. Strengthen your confidence in the Bible. Jesus was convinced that the Bible is God’s Word, which provides the best guidance in life.
(John 17:17) Sanctify them by means of the truth; your word is truth. Dig into topics about which you may have questions. To illustrate, you might increase your conviction that the end of this system of things really is near by studying in detail the Scriptural proof that we live in the last days. Strengthen your trust in the Bible’s promises for the future by investigating its many prophecies that have already come true. Develop your confidence in the practical value of the Bible by considering examples of how the Bible improves people’s lives.
Another words what makes you feel this way be specific?

Sambritt, I can see your confusion. You have a few different ideas here, that are in conflict with each other when examined carefully. I would like to address the notion that the bible is fiction, due to be historically inaccurate. Can you let me know what specifically makes you feel this way? I personally have examined the bible from the standpoint of science and history and have come to a different conclusion.
You are also correct, there are many principles in that book that we can guide our lives by, but what i have also found is that it is the only book that claims authorship of the creator, reveals how he feels about us, matters, who he is is, what his purpose for us and the earth are. Why there is so much suffering, what he is going to do about it. It also gives us a wonderful hope for the future, and even addresses topics such as death, why we die and what happens when we die. What hope is there for someone who has died. As you can see I can go on and on with what I have come to find in this book which is the most widely distributed book in the world. I definitely would love to continue this discussion with you. I have also found a site that it absolutely helpful in answering all types of question of various topics and has great simple videos as well. visit jw.org.
I have heard the term Christian Science. Which does not make sense. The word "Christian" designates followers of Christ Jesus, who was of divine origin not scientific. Science is mankind's theory based on experiments and their ideas.
Why not first learn what the bible really teach then compare science. Below read what one scientist had to say.
Chandra Wickramasinghe, professor at University College, Cardiff, said: “From my earliest training as a scientist I was very strongly brainwashed to believe that science cannot be consistent with any kind of deliberate creation. That notion has had to be very painfully shed. I am quite uncomfortable in the situation, the state of mind I now find myself in. But there is no logical way out of it. . . . For life to have been a chemical accident on earth is like looking for a particular grain of sand on all the beaches in all the planets in the universe—and finding it.” In other words, it is just not possible that life could have originated from a chemical accident. So Wickramasinghe concludes: “There is no other way in which we can understand the precise ordering of the chemicals of life except to invoke the creations on a cosmic scale.”31
As astronomer Robert Jastrow said: “Scientists have no proof that life was not the result of an act of creation.”

Why are you so convinced humans even could understand HOW what we know came to exist? What if, homo sapiens did NOT evolve. What if they were created by mixing our ancestors with what we call aliens? IF you follow Darwin, you know there is a huge gap between ape man and us. It's called the "missing link", meaning we do not know how we could have "evolved" and changed like we did. IF a "God" creator wanted us as we are now, they would not have bothered with the cave men, and just made us. Truth is, we do not have the capacity to find the answers - maybe far off in the future we'll be able to. Humans need to learn to use their brains, and stop being selfish disrespectful easily lead fools.
IMAGINE - what would all those "God" convinced people do, if tomorrow they SAW that they were all dead wrong? Trust me, we are here for a reason. If you knew that the majority of us could not live with ourselves if we found out we are complete fools, would you want to tell us? I wouldn't.
DO NOT worry about putting a label on yourself. You do not need to. Labels limit your mind.
Without intending to be rude, the correct term for someone who believes in evolution and also in a higher power, is ‘confusion’. Yes, a person cannot believe in both evolution and in a higher power. If you believe in a higher power, then you realize that the power is everywhere, in everything. You believe that everything on earth is a manifestation of the power, you and me are nothing but the Divine energy. Even science has proved that though there may be thirty trillion cells in a human body, each cell is nothing but energy. Therefore the power is in you and me. If you believe in evolution, it is believing in the myth, that we evolved out of apes and then probably apes evolved out of dinosaurs, but we cannot look at these theories, we need to questions and realize the Truth.
