What is the best way to make a sword sound in a book?

Hm, depends on the situation. Is it swinging? then say swish or something, personally I'd say not to use a sound like clank when writing a book but instead describe it, like, "The sharp metal object swung at me making a loud clattering noise as it hit the tree above my head" look for descriptive words not sounds.
