Draw fonts with simplified designs. That saves your work from being ruined or wrecked actually. But I also know this drawing idea from snappycanvas.com. You can merge your font with your artwork. Why not jumble or twist your design to make it look like it's merged with your artwork? But it is up to you actually. You can also draw your font first before you do your artwork. That saves a lot of trouble and brainstorming.
Prior to select any font for your painting, it is a great idea to find different fonts on google.com. You can download the different font for free at google.com/fonts/. Just make sure that you make a selection of fonts according to painting requirements like how large you want each letter or word to be.
