I came up with 10. {36 divided by 6, then add 4} but was told I was incorrect. Please explain the order of operations in this case.

Using PEMDAS which is the order of operations in math equations (stands for Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) (you go in that listed order when solving equations) , it would give you 10, so whoever told you that you had the incorrect answer is actually wrong.

My thought is that there is nothing you can do with the pararenthesis until you calculate the other numbers in the formula.
I do not see the answer 10 at all. I do but you have to equate the others before you can multiply 3 into the equation.
