I remember seeing an animated movie on television when I was younger(1988,89-1995?), I can't recall the exact details but I'll try to sum up the plot. So there are these apex predators(can't recall if they were wolves or lions) in the film that are at war with each other and have different clans, but there is always the looming threat from a huge force of wild animals(again not sure if the huge threat are wild dogs or what). Anyway there is a main character I think that try's to band all of the clans of apex predators together so that they can fight off the huge force of wild animals that attack. I also remember one scene from the movie where they go to the watering hole and each animal knows that their is a hierarchy there and a truce so no one attacks each other at the water hole.
