What is Popcon art?

Popcon is art slang or art speak for an emerging type or category of fine art: A blend / hybrid of Pop art and Conceptual art, Popcon art refers to any artistic work that comments on American pop culture, society, politics, or media. Popcon art includes art that has elements of both pop art and conceptual art so long as its subject matter is one of these four subjects. Also, Popcon art is not about nostalgia for the American way of life nor is it about American Exceptionalism. Rather, Popcon art usually conveys a strong critique of flaws or contradictions in American culture, politics, and media.

Example: His works were an example of Popcon art because he delivered a strong critique of American hypocrisy in the areas of culture, politics, and media, using elements of both pop art (color, image appeal) and conceptual art (the meaning of his artistic work did not depend on traditional painting or sculpture techniques).
