I have been approved for ssi for schizophrenia. I am considering living on it, around $700 a month and I qualify for low income housing. Has anybody tried living on ssi so you can tell me what it is like or is it possible?
What is it like to live on ssi?

Get on section 8 and tell section 8 your incom so u can afford to pay rent. Try assurance or cope or a program to help u find help. research for help programs, ask around, call your health insurance card number for help setting u up with help programs......try everything. as long as u also show proof that you are paying rent than you should not have to worry about them lowering it. keep your apartment/house lease papers and rent payed receipt. if your not living on your own have family write a fake check wich is a check u write on and it makes a receipt and then have family write down a letter with their signatures to proof that you r paying them rent and i would tell them $500-$600 or more to keep your money going. ssi has a scale of how much u have left after paying bills and basis it on if they should lower it or keep it at that amount. play smart. I had letters written from family with sigs and check receipts and they never knew that i had extra money. if you pull out a certain amount out of ur bank evre month and keep it looking like the same amount each time they shouldnt know about it. I think they check your bank so keep up the pattern. and dont save it in a savings account because they will check that and lower ur money. so save it in a lock box out of reach. If you dont live with your relatives you would just give them proof of your rent and house/apartment and bills payed. simple. If they ask for more and u live with ur parents just tell ur parents to take fake check keep reciept to give to ssi, and or ask for relatives to pay u back to save for an apartment/house or just do the letter and reciept from the check u wrote to ur parents and just dont have ur parents send it....just keep the money and save it in a lock box.lol thats what i did ...hope i explained it right.
oh and do not miss any ssi appointments very important or they will give u crap. keep in the game other than taht it should be easy to work with if ur on a housing program.
i write appointments and balnce checkbooks and keep things wrote down so i dont forget and put it on fridge or somewhere.keep a callender or whatever.
if u know the tricks it should be fine>>>>>>^_^
