What is it called when you talk into a microphone and the speakers at your computer play it back?

I don't know what it is called but you can do it when you test your microphone hardware on the computer. Tell me a name of a program or just the name of the thing.

if u want to avoid the sound playing back , just mute the microphone in the playback section ( available in : Start> Control Panel>Sounds And Audio Devices>Voice (Tab)>Voice Playback-Volume)

try it...
