I'm searching for a specific term that is used to describe what it is called when someone states the obvious or a fact followed by a phrase similar to "but you already knew that" as an insult or questioning their intelligence without it seeming so as it is clear that they don't know but you don't want to point that out.
Usually used to those in a higher position or rank than the person saying it. I found it a few weeks ago but am unable to find the term again.
Example:
"Come, follow me to safety!"
"Captain, we can't. We are surrounded but you already knew that"
It's not sarcasm. Sarcasm is more of a taunt than what I'm looking for.
