What is Acid Rain?

Oxides of sulphur and nitrogen reacts with water vapour present in the atmosphere to form sulphuric acid and nitric acid. When these come down with the rain, it makes the rain acidic. This is called acid rain.

According to Google, acid rain is rainfall made sufficiently acidic by atmospheric pollution that causes environmental harm, typically to forests and lakes. The main cause is the industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the waste gases from which contain sulfur and nitrogen oxides, which combine with atmospheric water to form acids.
