One way to learn to read music, if you have not ever read music before, is to find sheet music of a song that you know how to play perfectly all the way through. Then look at the chords you are playing and follow along with the music. Remember the notes and the patterns. Sheet music is relativley cheap so not that big of a deal really. Just keep playing the song or portions of the song and find it on the sheet music until you see the notes you are playing. Also in front of any "Learning Guitar" book,, it will list out the notes and somewhat explain what all the sybols mean, like what a slide looks like, what a vibrato looks like, and general knowledge.
Great answer .
I'd like to add:
Go to a music shop + ask for aTheory Book for beginning level
+ a book of blank music clef (will look like lines)
Practice writing the notes + symbols.
Do only a little amount a day.
Have fun !
