What happens to a child and his family if someone calls CPS about the child being neglected and?

Details:

... he and his family are here illegally? For example, if the child is coming to school in the same clothes and does not seem to be bathing and also seems to be hungry to the point of going through the trash can at school to get food that other kids have thrown out. What would happen to this child and his family?
