What does median in maths mean?

Answers (2)

median is the middle number of a row of numbers for example:

1, 6, 2, 9, 11, 5,15 this is a typical string of numbers question.

Rearrange in order:

1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 11, 15

So the median number is 6.

Now if you have two middle middle numbers: you have to do the following:

3, 5, 7, 12, 13, 14, 21, 23

median is 12, 13

12+13 = 25

(divide by 2) 25 / 2 = 12.5

therefore median 12.5

Hi Fariha..
- The "median" is the "middle" value in the list of numbers.

For Example:

(1) If we have 1,3,5,7,9 then,

Median= (n+1)/2 = (5+1)/2 = 3rd Position.

So answer is 5.

(2) If we have 1,3,4,5,7,9 then,

Median =(Middle two numbers)/2 = (4+5)/2 =4.5

So Median = 4.5
