I just have been thinking, what would it cost to build/ buy a cruise ship and whats the lowest amount of dollars anybody will need to get started? And also, could we buy used ships from companies? Thanks!
What does it cost to start a cruise business?

Can someone start with a small-like a boat-and build up. And how many years would it take. Also, what should I do to get the money if I don't have it-like start a small business- if yes, what? And what if I wont to start with 100 thousand- what should I do to have a cruise business in the future. Thanks

Break it down like this:
Assuming a middle/high income cruise with approx. 50 passengers and equivalent crew.
ship, bought not new for 50 passengers and equiv. crew: minimum 15 to 30 million dollars
daily operating costs, fuel, harbour fees etc: 10,000 dollars at harbour, 50,000 dollars at sea
booking, advertising, administration: 200,000 a year
wages: up to 60,000 dollars a month depending on crew and skills, could easily go much higher
services: 5,000 dollars a day
commodities (food, water, catering): 2000 dollars a day
Miscellaneous expenses: 1000 dollars a day
Then you have insurance costs, chartering costs, harbour fees, various legal issues, and so on.... the list is endless. You would need to employ several staff full time as well with all the associated costs as well as a premises to operate from which could also cost lots and lots, especially if clients are going to be visiting you there. Then as well a cruise is not just a "dump passengeres at the harbour" kind of trip. You need to organize activities and check out palces you are taking them which asólso costs lots of money.
I wouldn't go into it as a business venture without at least 100 million on the bank as hard capital and it can take years to build a client base.
