well there are lots of reasons why they use diamonds well they cut them to make different levels and sizes of diamonds some stand alone just to show brillance and size of the diamons then they have rings and braclets and necklaces watches and other things that inhances the quality of the diamonds if they have and then they fit them into different settings

Cool fact: only diamonds can cut diamond. So people actually need to already have a diamond to cut or shape or break another diamond.
