What do I do when a friend wont leave me alone, but I don't want to lose there friendship either?

So, I am looking for some advice, that I am hoping someone here can help me with. 

I made a friend a few weeks ago, and he has literally texted me every single day since we met. He seemed like a nice enough dude, and I can 100% tell he is not looking for anything besides friendship, and he actually kinda seems like a kind of lonely guy. 

I still want to be his friend! I don t wanna lose that because we do have a lot in common, but the daily messages needs to stop. How do I make this clear without flat out ignoring him but still informing him that a few texts off and on is more acceptable?

Answer

I would say just being straightforward with him and telling him he doesn't need to text you every day. You can put it in different wording if you need to but  if they get mad that you for being honest they probably aren't that great of a friend to start with. Hope this helps
