You should not give up. Let the person know that you care about them and that you would never hurt them the way that guy did. Trust me if the person really likes you will be able to know. It's just going to take some time for the person to be able to trust anyone again.

I think the best thing you can do Is follow your heart. Do you really, truely love him deep down inside? Do you just want to be friends? Or do you want to be more than just friends? I would take him aside and say '' Hey, I really need to talk to you..'' and then take it from there, hun. Make sure you don't hurt his feelings, even if you do, atleast you opened up to him and you letted him know how you felt.
