I'm currently 16 and live in Calgary, Alberta. I was thinking about taking sign language courses and child development courses in college or university. The thing is that I don't know the difference. Every time I try to google it and I get the same answer which puzzles me. I've never had family or teachers explain either to me so It's a completely foreign topic for me. I honestly didn't plan on ever going to college or university at all because I'm not sure if I even want to pursue a career in either. Does anyone know of any colleges or university's in Alberta that I can take both of these courses? What would the cost be? How would I apply? Thank you for your help!
What do I do after high school?

In the US, schools have career guidance counselors to answer these questions and there are even tests to take to find out where your
interests and skills lay. I would suggest you find out if your school has one or the equivalent.
Sign language and child development are two different things unless you want to work with deaf children specifically.
I also have taken a test for that once and it told me to take on art or graphic designing, which dont get me wrong, I love them both. I just cant imagine making them my career.
Every young person faces the same question and there are no clear answers. Millions of young people take some time to travel, usually on foot, usually picking crops to support themselves, and they come back when they feel like they have learned how to get along with the world. It is rather hard to justify a college program these days if you are not supported by family. If you have to borrow, it is a bad investment.
Get a simple job and a cheap pad within walking distance. That is so you don't have to waste your money on transportation. Save half of everything you earn. Yes, half. To start, keep your savings in gold or silver coins which you do not store in anybody else's vault. (IOW hide them at home.) Spend your evenings studying investment books at the public library. When you are smart enough then you can make other investments. If you earn ten bux an hour and save half, in only ten years you will have A HUNDRED THOUSAND BUX not counting interest or capital gains or paper profits: only principle. There is no other plan that will give you a net worth above zero in only ten years. And there is no school that will teach you any such thing.
Does this plan work? Andrew Carnegie worked five years, saved his wages, and then put it all into a tech stock: telegraph. You might have heard the name. His hobby was building concert halls and libraries.
They're different fields, but do have some overlap. Child development generally refers to either education or psychology, or a combination of the two. ASL is just a language, although it's a necessary one if you're going to be working in education with deaf children. Look up a guy named Piaget - he's one of the early pioneers of childhood development and education.
Sign language is more of a personal gain. Its so if my brothers do ever go deaf ill be ready and other then that maybe ill use it maybe i wont
The only reason I say those two is because I have an intrest in both. I love children and I want to take sign language because it would come in use to me, my brothers have lidney diseases which means they are hard of hearing and could go deaf one day. On top of that, if they have choldren the boys will have the same disease no matter what. I want to be prepared and if happens to become a career or just useful then so be it.
