I have to do a project in my grade 7 and 8 class, on a current event that is happening somewhere around the world. The event cannot be about sports or entertainment, and I will have to be able to come up with an opinion and create a discussion question (so people will have to interested in it).
What current event should I do my project on?

Scientists discovered that there may in fact be nine planets in our solar system. Look up "Planet Nine" in Google to learn more about it.
Also, NASA did an experiment in which they sent one twin into space, named Scott Kelly, and the other stayed on Earth. That astronaut has returned to Earth after one year and they are researching the differences between the twins and the affects of space on the human body.
Either one of those topics would make for an excellent current event.
Here's an example of a current event that someone I know wrote a few weeks ago:

Recently, scientists believe they may have found something they’ve nicknamed “Planet Nine”, which is exactly what it sounds like - a ninth planet in our solar system. Though we haven’t actually seen the planet yet, it’s existence has been inferred from the odd orbital cycle in the Kuiper Belt. If it exists, the planet’s revolution takes from 10,000-20,000 earth years, and it is nearly 10 times the size of the earth. This has most people excited, seeing as the last planet to be discovered was Pluto in 1930, but it has since been revoked of its planet status and instead classified as a dwarf planet.
How exactly did they infer Planet Nine’s existence, though? Each planet naturally wobbles forwards and backwards and roll left and right seemingly at random during its orbit of the sun. Bodies of mass in the Kuiper Belt, however, are all wobbling in the same direction, which is very strange. This must mean that there is a large planet and a gravitational force that is affecting the orbits of these bodies. Should the hypothesized Planet Nine exist, it would explain much about why the objects in the Kuiper Belt are doing this.
Soon, we may be able to prove this gaints existence. Powerful telescopes should be able to spot it if we look in the right direction. Until then, it leaves scientists debating over whether we have nine planets or eight.
I included a link to a useful website there. That can be helpful for a format of a decent current event, and if you would like to use that topic then it will be all the better. Have fun, and get a good grade!
Thanks!
Thank you! This was really helpful!
