Ok so I'm in seventh grade, I'm a 13 year old girl and I haven't been in basketball since 5th grade. I'm 5'3. I have been doing cross country and running 5ks in the meantime. So I'm not out of shape. I have one problem, in 4th and 5th grade, we only went against other people in our grade (still girls) well, now were going against different schools. I'm really worried to, because we get a week of practice before official cuts are made. I know the basics, no pushing. But I have to say I'm a total newb at it so, I need help on how to do the basics. I don't want to be making fouls all the time. Like, if I'm dribbling, can i switch the hand I'm dribbling with? Not just that but if I could get any tips and other things not to do that would be VERY helpful. When I usually get in gym when we do teams I'm guard, in 5th and 4th I was also a guard. Is there anything special I need to know about that, if I do get position of guard? I don't want to mess up and look like an idiot when I get out on the court, if your in basketball or your a coach I would really appreciate so help! :)
What can you can and can't do in basketball?

double dribble: when you dribble stop and dribble again or dribble with 2 hands
foul: touching someone while they're shooting or dribbling
out of bounds (not a terrible thing: when you or the ball is out of the court while the game is still going
take it out (also not bad): when someone goes out of bounds you take it off the court and pass it
pivit(good thing): when your not dribbling and you need to move, keep one foot still while moving
Those are the basics!
