Certainly not by reading the same stock drivel marketing departments keep shoveling out.
In addition to what wenso said, before the maintenance part (where overactive fans have invariably been an end result in my experiences), start by researching & acquiring a suitable laptop. Read the 1 & 2 star reviews on whichever off manufacturer site is most popular (amazon) for any sign of glaring issues. Try to get a clue about the cooling system's design - don't need a degree in engineering but ensure some thought was invested in it. Perhaps one of the most crucial factors is getting the sort of processing power befitting of your usage, as less strain is less temperature & fan overdrive: 8gb ram is the current minimum just for browsing the web or starting a program after some time; 16gb for any non casual user; 32gb is excellent in any standard situation, and will likely last longer if performance can be capped.
Unlike in desktops, laptops don't have as much capacity for changing parts or component improvements (cleaning & thermal paste).
