In general, some people decide what they want to believe and then read the bible to find something that supports that decision, perhaps with a bit of twisting. Like the preacher who was afraid to fly. When someone chided him about the contradiction, he said "I know what the bible says. It says 'LOW, I am with thee!'"
It is not reliable to let people tell you what the bible says. Many people will make up stuff because they don't know what it says, and many will make up stuff because they wish it would not say what it says. You just have to read it for yourself. Read a chapter of Proverbs every day. Proverbs has 31 chapters so you can keep your place by just looking at a calendar. There is no religion or nothing in Proverbs and you don't have to believe anything. Just read to find wisdom. When you are comfortable with that, then read the bible from Romans to 2 Thessalonians over and over until you start to remember what it says. That is the part that applies to Christians. Here is a book to help you to understand the bible. It's a free download and you can get a hard copy at any bible book store.

I appreciate your comment "Jewels Vern" and I have taken it into a consideration. Thank you for enlightening me with some tips on Bible reading. I'm positive that it would come in handy in the future. Have a good one mate!
Well from the bible , Christianity is a way of life, people misconstrue that and say I'm Christian because I believe in Jesus , and he died for us , when in fact like any other thing in life there are qualifications according to the bible, for example .you can't go into a restaurant say oh because I believe I cook well I'm a chef...visit jw.org for more bible based questions
Thanks for commenting "granny4" but I assure you that there are plenty of misconceptions not only about Christianity but all other religions exist today. If there were no misconceptions then each and every one of us would be living in harmony despite our religious beliefs
