What are the possitive and negative point on freedom of speech?

The problem is nobody can define it. It usually amounts to "You can say anything you want as long as I don't care what you say." In London a judge once found a man guilty of slander specifically because what he said was true. He said "The truth of the statement makes the crime worse." In the USA you can say whatever you like, but the federal spies are saving every word in case they need evidence to lock you up later.
