The first settlements in the UAE is said to have happened thousands of years ago... (even B.C.) But I'm interested in WHY this actually happened. What attracted these people if pearls and oil weren't found yet?
What are the main factors of why people started settlement in the UAE thousands of years ago?

The description in the bible of the garden of Eden makes it about 1500 miles east-west and 3,000 miles north-south, going down as far as Ethiopia. Havilah, land of gold, is in southwest Africa where thousands of abandoned gold mines have been found. Most of the world looked very different thousands of years ago. Egypt had regular rain then. The Indus Valley had a thousand towns with a population of maybe two million people, and we know nothing of them except that they had no preparations for war. We can't study any more towns because the place has been a war zone ever since.
