If you live in a small space such as a studio apartment, you can have a sofa bed to make the most of the space. During the day it’s a loung/living room type setting and at night you can turn it into a bed(room). Or in a spare room, if you want a sleeping arrangement for guests, but you also want to use the room as an office for example- a sofa bed fits better, looks better and is more functional and it again saves space. :-)
If it's for yourself, there isn't a good reason unless you are a small person and I mean tiny. Anybody who is a normal size or above is going to sooner or later experience a bad back or hips from the bar that runs across the center of that bed as support. Sofa beds suck for long term sleeping. If you are in a studio and need a bed and sofa buy a twin bed and put a bolster on it against the wall and some throw pillows and call it a sofa by day.
If it's for guests then a sofa bed will do okay for 3-5 days then they will want to go home which is good. Then you can have a combo office/guest room or sewing or craft room/guest room. Then they are great to have.
If you are looking for something that can have many uses, then the sofa-beds are the best option. Not only can you use this as a couch during the day, but it is also a comfortable bed that you can use at night. This is perfect if you have a small space where you need to make it as functional as possible, including having a place to sit along with somewhere to sleep at night.
There are more benefits to swapping from a regular bed to a sofa bed than you might initially think. Gone are the days of lumpy, uncomfortable sofa beds; ours are particularly squishy and soft since they all come with pocket sprung mattresses. Sofa beds are particularly useful for living rooms, guest rooms, home offices, studio apartments, and practically any home that is short on sleeping space. A regular bed takes up a huge amount of floor space and generally has a singular purpose (you can sometimes get beds with under bed storage). A sofa bed can be put away during the day and folded out when needed; what’s more, some of our sofa beds come with storage too, so you can hide away the pillow and duvet when it’s not needed.
