Pelton turbines are used when there is a very high water reservoir and small water flow rate so the water pressure is elevated and there is a nozzle pointing the water jet tangentially to the turbine, optimum turbine tangencial speed is half of jet speed, the water flow rate is regulated by a restriction on the nozzle. If the turbine is to be connected to a grid their speed/frequency and phase should be synchronous
