I am designing a brochure that markets a firm's mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering services. They claim to design building systems that are reliable and efficient among other things. "Energy Efficiency" is a political code phrase. It has no particular meaning, and at the same time it means whatever somebody wants it to mean. If you want synonyms, you have to use words that have well defined meanings.
Energy is not a physical unit. It is a philosophical concept and an accounting technique used to analyze mechanical and chemical exchanges. In nuclear physics it is defined as a wavelength of light, in biology it is a synonym for metabolism, and in public utilities they say energy when they mean connectivity. Anybody who uses the word in any other context either does not know what he is talking about, or is peddling something you don't need.
Efficiency is a well defined term, except that in political matters it is often used as a synonym for "reduced cost".
So the only answer to your question is "What are you talking about?"
I'm sorry, I have to tell you the same thing I tell kids in English classes: If you think you need to look for similes and synonyms, what you actually need is to learn the subject better, or just let somebody else take over the project.
