I'm 16 and I've wanted to do nursing for years and years now, but more recently I've been considering trying out for the army as a nurse or maybe a combat medical technician (I'm debating between being in the reserves or being full time, but need to probably get in contact with them to see what I think before deciding ). However, I've been looking at requirements and things like that and there s a couple of issues I could have
1. I have mild exercise induced asthma but have an inhaler. But, I've run 5 miles and been fine afterwards and didn't need to stop if that has an impact? I'm also running a marathon next year. Also,I haven't been formally diagnosed - the full testing process wasn't done, so could that help?
2. I do have a history of self harm and it states those with "More than one episode of deliberate self-harm of any type" can't join. My scars are all on my hips so would be hidden when wearing underwear or could just be classed as stretch marks but I don't know how thorough medical examinations are. Also, my family don't know and it never involved/required any medical help so there's no record of it
3. I have had surgery on both of my ears. First, grommets which are no longer in my ears which is acceptable, and then I had my eardrums reconstructed as they had holes in. Would that have an impact? I also don't have complete hearing but there's no major loss
What do you think my chances are for full time or part time? Or for the other services?
Thank you
