I was watching this show which featured a patient who would have frequent violent outburst, so I wondered: What happens to insane people who litterally cannot stop hitting things, be it walls, themselves, or people.(Even if they don't exist). I mean, there are restraining vests and special rooms, but you cant keep someone like that forever, right? What if a person could literally not stop fighting? Do psychiatric hospitals have laws and rules to prepare for such cases?

They're put on a thorazine drip and restrained for their own good. You might not see it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exit.
They're let go once their symptoms momentarily subside. I don't know if it's the same in all countries, in all reaches of the world, but they are required by law to remove restraints for a certain period of time. If they literally cannot stop fighting, they're usually put in solitary confinement in a rubber-padded room, sometimes, in restraints; be it a straight-jacket or something similar.
