The Latin calendar was a bit of a circus. It started with ten months, numbered. Four of our months still bear those numbers: no names.
9 September Seventh
10 October Eighth
11 November Ninth
12 December Tenth
13 Undecimber I never heard of this, but it means Eleventh.
Roman emperors named months after themselves and stole days from other emperors' months, so it was hard to keep track of what the date was.
