USB 3.0 Layer Protocol?

Question

Hi, as we know that, there are 3 layer in USB 3.0 which are Physical, Link and Protocol. So here, may i know that, is it 

1) Physical is hardware based which controlled or can modify only in hardware?
2) Link is software and hardware based which can modify or control in both software and hardware? 
3) Protocol is software based which can modify or control only in software? 

Hope can get detailed reply.

Btw, any1 know that is there any forum that discussing USB 3.0 development?

The USB 3.0 SuperSpeed architecture is based on a layered protocol, which includes a functional layer (executed in software); and a protocol layer, link layer and physical layer, all executed in hardware. The functional layers of a USB 3.0 Host and Device are linked by software pipes; the hardware layers are linked with a USB 3.0 cable.The Functional layer consists of an application layer and system software on the host side, and a logical function and logical device on the device side.
Pipes are the logical connections between host software and device endpoint.
