Unshielded vs Shielded twisted Pair Cabling?

Details:

Why is UTP less resistant to noise than STP? My thought is that the shielding would make STP less resistant to noise.

I can't imagine why you would think that. A random magnetic field will generate currents in the same direction in both conductors, but the length of a twist allows resonance, so some of the induced noise is not cancelled. A shielded cable does not have that effect.
