Long story short, my roommate and I have had many problems with our past landlord. The facts of our deposit return is as follows:
Received $175 out of $600.
took out for carpet cleaning which we knew they would do as stated in our lease.
took out for a cleaning company to come in and clean. We were told this was because we didn't clean under stove top and kitchen floor needed swept
took out for professional painting company to repaint the house due to scuffs from furniture. It did say in our lease that charges for paint touch ups would occur. It does NOT state that a professional painting company would be hired to repaint whole interior for any touch ups needed as a sheet given to us a few weeks prior to move out stated (we did not sign this). we have pictures we took upon move out that showed the walls looking fine and they told us after sending them a letter of demand that if we could provide pictures of every wall they would re-fund us.
After a year of gas leaks, hot water heater leaks, bug infestations and mold problems we find it a little unethical/unlawful to spring these professional companies charges on us.
Am I wrong in this? What should I do?
Thanks for any help
