Hi! I have a Google email account that was given to me by my University (doesn't end in @gmail.com), but now that I have graduated they are going to delete that account. Is there any way to switch my account to a gmail that is not attached to my university without starting completely over and losing all my saved emails and mailboxes I have created over the last 4 years? Thanks!

There might be a tech person that knows how that works, but if you can't find out, just forward all your saved emails to your new email address- that way you can get them or take screenshots of them. Sorry I can't give you more help, but that is definitely something you can do to keep your saved emails.
DO NOT mass forward your mails, if it's gmail / googlemail and probably anything else; Most servers will classify this as spammer behaviour forthwith.
If the server supports pop3 (you may google it and the service's name - the major ones do), install eg mozilla's thunderbird on your personal computer and connect to the account as pop3. Specifically, if it's gmail and you get few to no mails, there's a setting within the account under pop3 / imap which sets the earliest date to grab data. Furthermore, sent items are excluded, you'll have to save these manually if you wish.
Make haste, ere elimination befalls.
