In the beginning, nobody knew which way current flowed, but they had to assume a direction, so they assumed it flowed positive to negative. After a while they got electron theory and the electrons flow negative to positive. But the actual direction does not matter to engineers, so they kept using the assumption they already had, while technicians are taught electron flow because that is easier to teach.
